IR Spectrum Interpretation and Functional Group Assignment
Infrared spectrum analysis requires a lot of expertise with characteristic frequencies of functional groups, expected band intensities and structure correlations. Even for an experienced analyst spectrum interpretation is a time consuming job under most experimental conditions.
LabCognition's irAnalyze assists the analyst with knowing more than 400 functional groups and approximately 1000 characteristic IR band frequencies. It provides high quality functional group assignments in rather short time applying automatic or interactive analysis mode.

EZ-Pick Micromanipulator |
 |
|
 |
Manual handling of micro samples is often too unsteady while use of joystick controlled micromanipulators can be complex and expensive. The EZ-Pick-tool is ideal for any application where demanding micromanipulation is needed and has a justifiable price even for minor applications.
4 Steps to effective Micromanipulation:
-
Special assembly to attach and fix the required sampling tool (needle, knife, diamond scrabbler,..) to the manipulator.
-
The entire tool is mounted directly on the objective of your microscope.
-
Tip of sampling tool and the sample specimen on the stage are aligned and brought into focus.
-
By using the X-Y-Z movement of the microscope stage the sample can be manipulated, cut, sectioned, etc. . |
|
Features |
Benefits |
-
Special assembly to attach and fix the required sampling tool to the manipulator.
-
Variety of exchangeable sampling tool (needles, knifes, diamond scrabbler)
-
Fits to most optical microscopes (incl. IR, Raman, Fluorescence) and also with Stereo Microscopes. (A working objective distance of at least 5 mm and an x-y-z microscope stage are required) |
-
-
Precisely manipulate your specimens directly under the microscope.
-
High accuracy manipulation of microscopic specimens
-
Precise and predictable control of direction and force
-

EZ-Micro Sampling Knife Accessory
 |
The EZ-Micro Sampling Knife is an accessory for the EZ-Pick. The knife holder and blade can been inserted into the EZ-Pick tool and can be used for cutting micro specimens from a sample; for example cutting out a micro sample of film as shown. |
|

|
One of the features of the EZ-Micro Sampling Knife is its convenience. The specimen can be cut in any direction without rotating the sample. Furthermore, proper tension for cutting the sample is obtained from the spring set on the support post of the EZ-Pick tool.
|
EZ-Diamond Micro Plane Accessory
|

|
The Diamond Micro Plane is a versatile sample prep accessory. It mounts directly in the EZ-Pick tool and is used to plane or scrape off the surface of a sample. The surface material can then be collected for further analysis. Alternatively, after the surface is planed off, the exposed underlying layer can be analyzed. Thickness cuts can vary from 1-2 microns up to 50 microns. |
|

|
The cutting surface of the EZ Micro Plane is a single crystal diamond set into the tip of the blade.
The EZ Diamond Micro Plane can be used as a sample preparation tool for a wide variety of samples.
Also shown below left is the surface of a single human hair, scraped by the Diamond Micro Plane. Lower surfaces can thus be exposed for analysis.

Mini Plane Sampling Knife |
 |
|
|

|
The Mini Plane is a unique and versatile sample preparation tool designed to slice or plane surfaces of hard and soft, biological and industrial materials into thin samples for microanalysis.
Proper sample preparation tools are a requirement for any microscopy lab. This is especially true for those performing FT-IR analysis where the sample must be between 5 and 20 microns in order to provide the desired transmission.
The Mini-Plane is ideal for this application.
It scrapes or planes the surface of the sample material in order to obtain a specimen of uniform thickness. |
Features |
Benefits |
|
|
-
Excellent control and reproducibility of sample thickness
-
Precise depth control
-
Reduced mechanical damage to specimen
-
Allows you to produce sections of various thickness with the same knife
- Easy to clean

Diamond Compression Cell for FTIR-Microscopes |
 |
|
 |
With this compression cell you can easily flatten and thin materials to an ideal thickness for transmission analysis
The sample is simply compressed between the diamond windows by turning thumb screws until the sample is thin enough for the beam of the spectrophotometer to penetrate.
The Diamond Cell simplifies sample preparation of samples, which are difficult to manage by other techniques: Excellent for analyzing hard materials such as minerals, rubbers, plastics, polymers and also pharmaceuticals. They can be compressed, crushed and flattened to a uniform thickness for IR measurements.
The total cell thickness of 9.5 mm provides smallest working distance for use with microscopes. |

Diamond Windows
Standard materials such as KBr and BaF2 have long been used as windows for spectroscopic applications. These materials, however, present a number of problems. For example, they can be easily scratched and are difficult to clean.
Diamond windows do not have these problems. They are extremely hard and therefore almost impossible to scratch or damage, and they are easily cleaned. This gives them an extremely long life.
The Diamond Windows are an ideal tool for your microscope measurements and cover wide spectral range from UV to FTIR. |
